Author
Azariah Mather
Azariah Mather (1632–1669) was a Congregationalist minister and theologian of the early New England colonial period who served as pastor of Windsor, Connecticut, and contributed significantly to the development of Reformed ecclesiastical polity in America. His theological writings, including *Good Rulers a Choice Blessing*, articulated the covenant theology and magisterial Protestant principles that shaped Puritan political thought and the relationship between civil authority and religious community in seventeenth-century New England. As a member of the prominent Mather ministerial dynasty, Azariah's work bridged the first and second generations of American Puritanism, influencing the intellectual foundations of colonial religious and civic life.
