Edwards A. Park

Edwards Amasa Park (1808–1900) was a prominent American Congregationalist theologian and professor at Andover Theological Seminary who played a significant role in mediating between traditional Calvinist orthodoxy and emerging nineteenth-century theological liberalism. His scholarly work, including *The Indebtedness of the State to the Clergy*, engaged with questions of ecclesiastical authority and the relationship between religious institutions and civil society during a period of substantial American religious transformation. Park's theological contributions and his long tenure at Andover established him as a central figure in the development of American Protestant thought during the antebellum and postbellum periods.
