Henry Ware

Henry Ware (1764–1845) was an influential American Unitarian theologian and educator who played a pivotal role in the theological liberalization of New England Protestantism during the early nineteenth century. As the first professor of divinity at Harvard University appointed to promote liberal Christian theology, Ware shaped generations of ministers through his scholarly work and pastoral writings, including occasional sermons such as those delivered before state officials. His theological contributions helped establish Unitarianism as a major intellectual and religious force in American religious history, challenging Calvinist orthodoxy and advancing a more rationalist approach to Christian doctrine.
