Israel Evans

Israel Evans (1747–1807) was an American Presbyterian minister and theologian whose *Election Sermon* of 1791 exemplified the intersection of Revolutionary ideology and Reformed theology in the early republic. His work contributed to the broader discourse on divine providence, republican virtue, and the theological foundations of American independence during a formative period of national identity. Evans's writings reflected the efforts of late eighteenth-century clergy to reconcile Calvinist doctrine with Enlightenment political philosophy and the emerging American experiment.
