Author

Jonathan Mitchel

Jonathan Mitchel (1624–1668) was a prominent Congregationalist minister and theologian of the English Interregnum and Restoration periods, serving as pastor of Sherbury Church in Cambridge and later as a leading figure in New England ecclesiastical circles. His exegetical and homiletic works, including commentary on biblical texts, significantly influenced Reformed Protestant theology during a period of religious and political upheaval in both England and America. Mitchel's scholarly contributions to covenant theology and his defense of congregational polity made him an important intellectual bridge between English Puritanism and the developing theological traditions of colonial New England.
