Author

Joseph Fish

Joseph Fish (1706–1781) was a Congregational minister and missionary whose theological work emphasized Christ's redemptive role in spiritual healing, as evidenced in his treatise *Christ Jesus the Physician*. Operating during the Great Awakening, Fish contributed to colonial American Protestant thought through his integration of Calvinist doctrine with pastoral concern for individual conversion and moral reformation. His ministry in Connecticut and missionary efforts among Native Americans reflected the evangelical priorities of mid-eighteenth-century New England theology.
