Levi Hart

Levi Hart (1738–1814) was an American Congregationalist minister and theologian whose evangelical preaching and theological writings significantly influenced late eighteenth-century New England religious thought. A graduate of the College of New Jersey (now Princeton University), Hart served as pastor of Preston, Connecticut, and became known for his moral philosophy and defense of Christian orthodoxy against emerging rationalist challenges. His work *The Description of a Good Character* exemplifies his commitment to articulating practical Christian virtue within the context of the American Revolutionary era and the subsequent development of American Protestant theology.
