Moses Stuart
Moses Stuart (1780–1852) was an American biblical scholar and theologian who served as professor of sacred literature at Andover Theological Seminary, where he became a leading figure in American Protestant biblical criticism during the nineteenth century. A pioneer in applying philological and historical methods to scriptural interpretation, Stuart advanced the study of biblical languages and exegesis in American theological education, significantly influencing the development of more rigorous hermeneutical approaches among his contemporaries and students. His scholarly work helped establish the foundations for modern biblical studies in the United States while maintaining his commitment to evangelical Protestant theology.
