Philip Melanchthon

1497–1560
Philip Melanchthon. Luther's closest colleague and the systematic theologian of the Reformation. Loci Communes (1521) was the first Protestant systematic theology. Primary author of the Augsburg Confession (1530). 'Praeceptor Germaniae' — teacher of Germany. His student Ursinus would co-author the Heidelberg Catechism, making Melanchthon a critical bridge between the Lutheran and Reformed traditions.
