Richard S. Storrs

Richard S. Storrs (1821–1900) was a prominent American Congregationalist minister and theologian whose intellectual leadership shaped nineteenth-century Protestant thought during a period of significant theological transition. Serving as pastor of the Church of the Pilgrims in Brooklyn for over fifty years, Storrs became known for his eloquent preaching and scholarly engagement with contemporary theological debates, particularly regarding biblical interpretation and the relationship between faith and reason. His sermonic and theological writings, including works such as The Anniversary Election Sermon, exemplified the moderate evangelical Protestantism that sought to reconcile traditional doctrine with modern intellectual currents.
