Author
Samuel Parker
Samuel Parker (1640–1688) was an English clergyman and theologian whose *Election Sermon* exemplified the Restoration church's engagement with providential history and political legitimacy. As a prominent voice in late seventeenth-century Anglican thought, Parker articulated the theological foundations for monarchical authority during a period of significant religious and political upheaval following the Restoration of Charles II. His sermonic work contributed to the broader intellectual discourse surrounding the relationship between divine providence, ecclesiastical order, and civil governance in post-Commonwealth England.
