Author
Samuel Torrey
Samuel Torrey (1632–1707) was a Congregationalist minister and theologian whose works exemplified the spiritual concerns of late seventeenth-century New England Puritanism, particularly the anxiety over religious declension and the need for ecclesiastical reform. His published exhortations, including *An Exhortation Unto Reformation* and *A Plea for the Life of Dying Religion*, articulated the jeremiad tradition and called for renewed piety amid perceived spiritual decline in the colonial churches. Through his pastoral writings and theological interventions, Torrey contributed significantly to the discourse on revival and reformation that would help shape the intellectual foundations of American Protestantism.
