Thomas Brightman

Thomas Brightman (1562–1607) was an English Nonconformist theologian and biblical commentator whose interpretive methods significantly influenced Protestant exegesis in the early modern period. His scholarly works, including A Commentary on the Canticles, exemplified the detailed textual analysis and typological interpretation characteristic of late Elizabethan Reformed theology. Brightman's contributions to biblical commentary and his advocacy for ecclesiastical reform positioned him as an important transitional figure between Reformation theology and the emerging Puritan movement of the seventeenth century.
