Author

Thomas Wilcox

Thomas Wilcox (1549–1608) was an English Puritan minister and theologian whose exegetical works, particularly his *Exposition Upon the Book of the Canticles*, exemplified the Protestant hermeneutical tradition of allegorical and typological biblical interpretation during the late Elizabethan and early Jacobean periods. His scholarly contributions to Reformed theology and his role as a prominent nonconformist preacher made him an influential figure in the development of English Puritanism, despite his periodic imprisonment for his religious convictions. Wilcox's theological writings bridged academic divinity and pastoral instruction, addressing both learned clergy and educated laity within the emerging Puritan movement.
