Author
Timothy Cutler
Timothy Cutler (1684–1765) was a prominent American colonial theologian and ecclesiastical leader whose intellectual trajectory from Congregationalism to Anglicanism exemplified the theological tensions of early eighteenth-century New England. As rector of Yale College and later as an Anglican clergyman, Cutler engaged substantively with questions of church polity and doctrinal authority, as evidenced in works such as *The Firm Union of a People Represented*, which addressed the theological foundations of ecclesiastical community. His career and writings illuminate the complex religious landscape of colonial America during a period of denominational consolidation and doctrinal debate.
