Author
Timothy Cutler
Timothy Cutler (1684–1765) was a prominent American Congregational minister and theologian whose intellectual leadership shaped early eighteenth-century New England religious thought. As rector of Yale College and later pastor of Christ Church in Boston, Cutler became a controversial figure following his 1722 conversion to Anglicanism, an event that precipitated significant theological and ecclesiastical debates about church polity and ministerial authority in colonial America. His published works, including *The Firm Union of a People Represented*, engaged contemporary disputes over ecclesiastical governance and the nature of Christian community during a period of denominational transition in British North America.
